Pictures of Blue Streak
This is the latest re-incarnation of Blue Streak in all her glory.
The RD400 Engine is bored to 430cc, ported by George of K.G.B. Motorcycles in Trinidad W.I.
The Allspeed exhausts are moded to match the porting. The carbs are RD350 YPVS re-jetted and
fitted with K & N Filters with plastic inlet tubes. The reeds cages are RD350YPVS in
machined inlet tracts plus YBIS
The rear suspension is Marzochi on a beefed up 400 swingarm, mounted on phosphor bronze
bushes with grease grooves fed by grease nipples.
The rear brake system is a copy of a GP bike parallelogram system with a FJ1100 calliper
modified to take datsun brake pads. ( The original pads were far too expensive and datsun
120Y pads fit when they are too worn for the car i.e. free!! ). The point of having the
brakes mounted in this way is to stop suspension lock up in corners under hard braking. The
rear wheel is stock ( shod here with rubber from Metzeler ). The pegs are custom jobs with
custom linkages for gear shifting and brakes.
The front end is a Yamaha 650 with larger bearings fitted in a std. RD400F wheel shod with a
Metzeller Tyre. The front axle is a steel 20mm dia. custom made part. The front stoppers are
Suzuki GS550e clamping on standard RD4 discs ( each having 120 cooling holes drilled thro'
them ) one of which needs the centre diameter skimmed out by 2mm to suit the original wheel
bearing boss. The original loose ball steering head bearings were replaced by roller bearings
fitted in custom made housings to suit the steering head of the frame and the steering boss
of the yokes.
The Rear Fender was bobbed and the taillight assy. replaced with a DT175 unit. The seat pan
was re-upholstered to give a bum stop for the rider, and a higher softer seat for the little
lady.
The front headlamp fairing and belly pan are fibreglass replicas of the RD350YPVS models
